Maria A Arana

within

they say it lurks behind every soul who cries

waiting to wipe the tears from the ground with its clammy tongue

they say it hides behind your deepest secrets

waiting to pick up the broken pieces of when truth comes calling

they say it wants your dreams

that it would hang on the ceiling waiting to snatch them up

where it takes them is unknown

only that it begins a descent steep enough to flex the feet backward

where it ends is a mystery

but it isn't needed when all is taken

your heart remains intact

stop me

infectious disease

tying knots

so the words could

stop me

plug me

it won’t

with its scent

crying

broken

where things jumble

for answers

it won’t stop

the red walls

written blood

shaken

into pieces

it won’t stop

painting

A tree of life

the roots have taken residence

building time into woven fabrics

they stretch and form limbs that hold life

its many symbols enjoyed and memories swirling

twirling and curling into branches full of vigor

and pointing to the ultimate fate

that of not lasting

finding peace

resting

Jealous of the sun Will you forgive me, she asks. The sun was shining  and I hiked-up my skirt and opened my knees.
